Should You Swipe Right on Dating Apps?

Remember when you were younger and you met people easily at school, at the club, or that music festival in the park. Ahh… the good ole days. As we get older it can become harder to meet new people. The chances of you making a new connection when all you do is go to work, the nail salon, and Target are limited. The added confinement of a worldwide pandemic also doesn’t help. So how do you find someone you want to get close to when we are all keeping our distance?

Maybe it’s time to check out that online dating app. I know what you're thinking dating apps are … (insert your judgement here). Your right dating apps can be all that and more but there are also genuine opportunities to meet someone. I was a 32-year-old single mother in a new city. My social life was limited because I could only go out every other weekend. I remember a friend telling me I needed to get myself out there. "I am out there," I protested. No, you’re not my, friend countered. All you do is go to work, playgrounds, and the grocery store. She was right I wasn’t meeting any potential mates especially when my wingman was a 4-year-old boy.

Online dating is a quick way to expand your dating pool. You just need to know what you’re looking for.

I Wanna Sex You Up Apps: Tinder, Grindr, Her

Apps like Tinder and Grindr can provide you access to millions of potential booty calls. If you're looking to smack it up, flip it and get rubbed down these apps may be for you. Hook-up apps are causal and while you could meet the love of your life, I wouldn’t hold my breath. If your hoping to get that itch scratched these dating apps may be just what the doctor ordered.

Cuffing Season Apps: Zoosk, Match, Black People Meet

Apps such as Zoosk and Match claim they can find you a mate. These sites have millions of members and use personality and behavioral assessment to determine compatibility. If you want a long-term relationship with someone who shares similar interest these apps might work for you. Unlike the hook-up apps these apps boast looking at more than the physical aspect of compatibility.

Meet Me at the Altar in Your White Dress Apps: eHarmony, Our Time, Elite Singles

If you’ve already decided on your wedding colors and all you need is the partner these apps may be the trick. Each require you complete an extensive questionnaire before connecting to potential matches. Many of these sites brag about the millions of love connections that have led to the altar. I’m actually one of those success stories. I met my husband on eHarmony and we have been together for 10 years, married for six years.

Nothing is every guaranteed but anything is possible if your expectations are realistic and you understand what you want out of the process.
