Marvel Studios has finally revealed which mutant Inde Navarrette will bring to life in its highly anticipated X-Men reboot, and the answer is not the character many fans expected. After months of speculation surrounding the rising actress, Navarrette has officially been cast as Rogue, adding another major role to a career that has rapidly grown following the success of Obsession.
The Breakout That Changed Everything
Navarrette’s casting comes after an impressive breakthrough in Obsession, the 2026 horror film that became an unexpected box office success. The movie transformed Navarrette into one of Hollywood’s most talked-about young actresses and gave audiences a closer look at her abilities as a performer.
What made her performance particularly memorable was the extreme range she displayed throughout the film. Navarrette was required to move between vulnerability, fear, emotional intensity, and increasingly disturbing situations, allowing her to demonstrate that she could handle much more than a conventional dramatic role. Her performance helped establish her as an actress capable of carrying complicated characters, making her transition into a major Marvel production even more exciting.
Why Fans Thought She Would Be Mystique
Before Marvel announced her casting as Rogue, Navarrette had already sparked a major conversation among fans by revealing that Mystique was the X-Men character she wanted to play. The actress had previously spoken about meeting director Jake Schreier and expressed her interest in portraying the shape-shifting mutant. Her comments quickly spread across social media, with fans debating whether Marvel had found its new Mystique.
The speculation made sense. Mystique is one of the franchise’s most complicated characters, constantly changing her appearance and identity. After seeing Navarrette demonstrate such an extreme range in Obsession, many fans believed she could bring something fresh to the role. Instead, Marvel surprised everyone by announcing that Navarrette would portray Rogue.
Was Mystique a Clever Distraction?
Although there is no confirmation that Marvel or Navarrette intentionally used Mystique to hide her real role, the situation has led to an interesting theory among fans. Navarrette publicly discussing her desire to play Mystique may have unintentionally, or perhaps deliberately, shifted attention away from the character she was actually preparing to portray. If she already knew that Rogue was her role, talking about Mystique would have been a surprisingly effective way to keep fans guessing.
For months, audiences were looking in one direction. Then Marvel revealed the answer was somewhere completely different. Whether it was a carefully planned marketing tactic or simply Navarrette expressing genuine interest in another character, the result was the same. The Rogue announcement became a much bigger surprise.

A New Rogue for a New Generation
Navarrette will join a new generation of X-Men stars, including Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Maya Boyd as Storm, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, and Adam Driver as Mister Sinister.
For Navarrette, Rogue could become the defining role of the next stage of her career. After using Obsession to showcase an impressive emotional range, she now has the opportunity to bring that versatility to one of Marvel’s most recognizable and beloved mutants.
