The tree is decorated and the stockings are hung the holidays make you all warm and fuzzy. You’ve spent time scouting the internet to find the perfect gift for your partner but you’ve noticed that your boo has literally ghosted you just a few weeks before the holidays.
I’m sure you know, but just in case your unfamiliar ghosting is defined as the practice of ending a personal relationship with someone by suddenly and without explanation withdrawing from all communication. Let’s use it in a sentence. I was looking forward to spending the holidays with my boyfriend but he ghosted me. Has this ever happened to you? Everything seems to be going well. The two of you are vibing, it’s all love and then poof they’re gone. You’ve just been ghosted my friend. So, what do you do when you get booed before the holidays?
So, Mister/Misses Right has turned into Casper, the no longer returning your calls or text messages, ghost. The partner that was once so responsive is now leaving your texts on read and your calls unanswered. It’s human nature to want to make excuses, he must be super busy at work or maybe she was in a accident and now has amnesia and no longer remembers the love of her life. Whatever the case, he is no longer checking for you.
Why do people ghost during the holidays? Maybe she just wasn’t feeling the same way you were and was unable to communicate those concerns like an adult and decided to just bounce. Many people hate confrontation and they will opt for the easy way out even if that out leaves others frustrated with unanswered questions.
The thought of meeting friends or family during the holidays can be unnerving. Being in a relationship during the holidays implies that it’s serious and sometimes that can freak people out causing them to dip only to try to come back around after the pressure of the season have passed.
If you get ghosted you need to take the L and move on. No obsessing, or social media stalking. No cryptic messages posted to your time line. (Which is hella goofy, by the way). Move on try to enjoy your solo holiday and recognize that your invisible partner just suffered a huge loss. I know it’s hard but try not to take it personal. Ghosting really says more about the ghoster than the ghostee.
Holidays are a time when we reflect on the things we are thankful for and look forward to the possibilities of the year ahead. You may have just dodged a bullet by avoiding a long-term relationship with a person who clearly has issues with communication. So, enjoy the time with family and friends, return that PS5, and go get you a Telfar bag or something.
