"My life was an unending, unchanging midnight. It must, by necessity, always be midnight for me. So how was it possible that the sun was rising now, in the middle of my midnight?" // Edward Cullen
Midnight Sun (Twilight #5) is the retelling of Twilight from Edward's point of view. Parallel to the story of Edward's first encounter with Bella, runs the story of how loving this lamb of a human becomes the defining struggle of his life. Stephenie Meyer provides us with an intricate sneak-peek into that beautiful head of the most sought-after vampire ever. And since Edward can read others' thoughts as well, Midnight Sun also becomes the story of the entire Cullen coven.
The first part of the book is amazingly hot. I love the way it ruthlessly dissects Edward's thoughts, making creative use of 'the lion and the lamb' trope. The book just could not have been any more detailed than this! Learning the history of the Cullens was an adventure as well, especially Carlisle.
I loved Meyer's writing style, but halfway through the book, Edward's thoughts just become repetitive and irritating because we already know what's gonna happen. It's not a book which stimulates your brain and gives you a thrill. Rather, it goes on to tell a story you already know for more than 650 pages.
Were someone to read Twilight for the first time, they may like Edward's story more than that of Bella. But as the fifth installment in the Twilight Saga, Midnight Sun failed to strike a chord within me. Thus, I will only recommend this book to you if you love The Twilight Saga with all your heart and soul.
