At Your Voice Media, we celebrate voices that challenge the norm and create change through art, vision, and unapologetic authenticity. From designing for Beyoncé to competing on HBO’s The Hype, Timeekah Murphy is not just a designer — she’s a movement. Her brand, Alani Taylor, blends high fashion and streetwear with a message: You can be powerful, daring, and authentically YOU.
YV Media: You’ve become one of the most talked-about designers in fashion right now, but let’s take it back — when did your love for fashion first begin?
TM: Honestly, I don’t have a love for fashion I have a love. With making sure my daughter name has value. Fashion was just the vehicle to make that happen. This is Gods work not mine because fashion was the last thing I though would be my path.
YV Media: Before becoming “the designer behind the designs,” what inspired you to take that leap and create Alani Taylor?
TM: Alani Taylor was named after my daughter because she represents everything pure about why I move the way I do. Before the world knew my name, I knew my purpose to create something that lived beyond me. I wanted to build a brand that spoke truth, challenged comfort zones, and made people feel seen no matter who they are. And I promise that’s everything my daughter stands for even at 9 years old she embodies it.
YV Media: You’ve described fashion as more than clothing — it’s a statement. How did your early experiences shape your creative identity?
TM: My early life taught me resilience. The military taught me discipline. And life taught me grace. I use all of that in my creative process. Every piece I design carries a story, an emotion, a piece of my journey. Fashion isn’t about trends to me it’s about transformation. It’s how I express what words can’t always say.
YV Media: At Your Voice Media, we say “Your Voice Matters.” How has your voice as a designer evolved over time, and what do you want your designs to say to the world?
TM: My voice has gotten louder not in volume, but in truth. In the beginning, I was just designing because I knew how. It was fun and now it’s real. Now, I’m showing the world that I was born for this. My designs speak confidence, rebellion, and freedom. I want people to feel powerful wearing my pieces — like they don’t need permission to be themselves.
YV Media: Alani Taylor is known for pushing boundaries — from structure to genderless fashion. What does it mean to you to design beyond labels and expectations?
TM: It means freedom. I never wanted to be boxed in by gender, culture, or what “fashion rules” say I should do. I design from the soul — and the soul doesn’t have gender. Creating genderless fashion is my way of telling people: your identity is yours. You define it. My job is to make clothing that honors that.
YV Media: Your pieces have been worn by icons like Beyoncé. What was that experience was like for you personally and creatively?
TM: That moment was surreal. Beyoncé wearing my designs was more than a career highlight it was the pinnacle of my career, it was confirmation. I remember thinking, “God, I see You.” It reminded me that no matter where you come from, your gift will make room for you. Creatively, it pushed me to elevate.
YV Media: You’ve worked on major productions with Tyler Perry and VH1. How does designing for television differ from creating for the runway or your own collections?
TM: Designing for TV is about character, it’s storytelling with constraints. You have to think about movement, lighting, camera angles. The runway, though that’s my world. That’s where I get to break rules, go big, and express raw emotion. On set, you serve the story. On the runway, you are the story.
YV Media: Your recent show in Atlanta made a huge statement and truly shifted the local fashion energy. What inspired the vision behind that show?
TM: That show was a statement. I wanted to shake the city to remind people that Atlanta is fashion, not just music and culture. The vision came from rebellion and royalty colliding. It was structured chaos bold silhouettes, raw energy, and emotion stitched into every look. I wanted people to feel like they were watching a movie, not a fashion show.
YV Media: Your work radiates empowerment — for women, creators, and dreamers. What message do you want people to walk away with after seeing or wearing your designs?
TM: I want them to walk taller. To feel unstoppable. My clothes aren’t just fabric they’re armor. I want people to look in the mirror and see the version of themselves they’ve always dreamed of becoming. That’s power.
YV Media: As a Black woman in luxury streetwear, what barriers have you had to break, and how do you hope your story inspires the next generation of designers?
TM: I’ve had to fight for seats at tables that weren’t built for me. But instead of waiting for permission, I built my own table. I broke barriers by staying authentic by proving luxury isn’t defined by who’s wearing it, but by the story behind it. I hope my journey tells the next generation: You don’t need validation to be valuable.
YV Media: And lastly — what does the future of fashion look like through the eyes of Timeekah Murphy?
TM: The future of fashion is fearless. It’s sustainable, inclusive, and unapologetic. It’s storytelling, not status. Through my eyes, the future is purpose-driven where creativity meets consciousness. Fashion isn’t just what we wear anymore it’s who we are becoming.
Power. Purpose. Presence.
Timeekah Murphy isn’t just redefining fashion — she’s rewriting its rules. Through Alani Taylor, she’s built a brand that embodies courage, creativity, and consciousness, reminding us that style is more than appearance — it’s Identity, it’s Voice, it’s Power. Her journey from military discipline to global runways proves that purpose has no limits when it’s fueled by faith and authenticity. Every stitch, every silhouette, every show carries the name of her daughter, Alani, and the legacy of a woman who refused to wait for permission to be great. At Your Voice Media, we celebrate trailblazers like Timeekah Murphy — visionaries who use their art to empower, disrupt, and inspire. Because when your voice is fearless, the world can’t help but listen.
