POWER MOVES: Dr. Kristin Hammer

Written by Amber Hawkins @ambbamm_

Dr. Kristin is passionate about helping her community, uplifting others, and inspiring those around her. She is a powerhouse in the chiropractic world. She has owned and operated her own chiropractic office, Clearwater Chiropractic, in Savage, Minnesota for the past 9 years, as well as her Instagram page, Women in Chiropractic @clearwaterchiropractic, where she encourages and uplifts female chiropractors in the industry. She believes that health and healing comes from within and works to restore this innate healing through specific chiropractic care.

Dr. Kristin was awarded the Star of the North Award by the United States House of Representatives for her chiropractic mission trip work in Haiti, as well as being recognized as one of Minnesota’s Best Chiropractors.

What sparked your interest in becoming a chiropractor?

Growing up I didn’t believe in chiropractic. I was raised to believe that chiropractors were crazy, so I never went to a chiropractor growing up. But I have always been passionate about helping people. So mix that with my love for science and anatomy and chiropractic was the perfect fit! Now I get to do something I’m passionate about while helping people with the science and career I love!

If you were not a chiropractor, what else could you see yourself doing?

This is an easy one. I would be a makeup artist! I love doing makeup, as well as skincare, and I even worked in the cosmetics industry during chiropractic school. Specifically, I love theatrical or Halloween makeup. Every year in October, I do my own Halloween makeup and it is always a big hit with my patients!

How has the pandemic impacted your charity work?

The pandemic has just changed my focus with charity work. I did a food drive at my office for a local food pantry at the beginning of the pandemic, because I was concerned for those who had lost their jobs and might not have enough to eat or the resources to buy food and necessities. I also had my kids color pictures and write letters for residents at a local nursing home because I was concerned about those who had to go so long without leaving their rooms or seeing loved ones. At Christmas time, I brought hot chocolate care packages to the nurses at the Covid-19 testing sites as a thank you for all they do. Little things like that made me feel like I was contributing in my small way to ease the burden of the pandemic and brighten somebody’s day.

Where do you see yourself in the next 5-10 years?

In the next 5-10 years I see myself expanding my business with another chiropractor so we can help reach even more people in our community. I can also see myself giving back and mentoring students and chiropractors in the field. I believe it is my duty to help advance our profession in any way I can.

Words of advice for anyone starting their own chiropractic office.

Be confident. You are an expert in the field of chiropractic, even if you are just starting out. You have a wealth of knowledge to share with the world, and can help so many people with just your two hands. It’s incredible. Believe in yourself, believe in your ability to help people, and the rest will come. Starting into business is never easy, it takes hard work, determination, focus and consistently. Work hard for what you want but give yourself a break when needed. If you are passionate about it and have a desire to help people then this is an absolutely amazing and rewarding career.
