With 3 decades under belt, Meagan Good has grown to become one of Hollywood’s favorites on screen. Meagan has own her comedic efforts in romcoms like Think Like A Man, however, she is truly showing us her range with her new film on Lifetime called Death Saved My Life. Lifetime revealed it’s Winter 2021 Lineup and announced that they were slated to air five films every Saturday night under the theme Ripped From The Headlines, which will show true crime stories that inspired each of the films starting Feb 13th through Mar. 13th.
The first movie to air as a part of this bundle deal is Death Saved My Life, starring Meagan Good, LaMyia Good, and Chiké Okonkwo. This film follows Jade (Meagan Good) a successful marketing career, a husband admired and respected in the community, and a young daughter they both dote on. But behind closed doors, her life is far from idyllic. Her husband Ed (Chiké Okonkwo) is a controlling man who is physically and psychologically abusive. When Jade decides to leave Ed, he tells her "If I can't have you, nobody will," a threat which becomes very real when she discovers he has hired someone to kill her. Knowing no one will believe her, Jade realizes the only way to escape Ed is to make him believe the hitman completed the job and that she is dead.
Your Voice Magazine Correspondent Ty Cole had an opportunity to speak to the cast about the film and directed his question towards Meagan Good, asking her about she finds control in Hollywood despite Hollywood’s efforts to control the narrative for actors, especially black actors.
"Because I’ve been here for a good amount of time, what I discovered worked for me is owning my authenticity and walking in transparency. It’s like in the scene in '8 Miles' when Eminem won the rap battle at the end. He won it because he leaned into his authenticity. He owned all of his stuff and that’s how I approach owning my narrative." - Meagan Good.
