Nearly a month after the release of his last album, Lil Uzi Vert dropped a new single on Friday called “Sasuke,” referring to an anime character from the Naruto series.
Fans were eagerly waiting for the Philadelphia rapper to drop something amid his twitter subs with Playboi Carti. Carti dropped a single on April 16th titled “@ MEH” and shortly after Uzi reposted the cover art and captioned it “Just Meh.”
Following that, the “Magnolia” rapper tweeted ". MoNDaY,” insinuating that more music was on the way and within minutes, Uzi tweeted the same thing- as if he wanted to match Carti's energy. Neither of them dropped on Monday, but Uzi posted a snippet of some unreleased music and later dropped “Sasuke” on the 24th.
We didn’t get another track from Carti yet, but we did find out that both artists love each other despite their confusing relationship. On Saturday, the rappers shared a sentimental moment on twitter.
Whether they were toying with us or really beefing is still up for debate but regardless, it’s safe to say that 2020 is Uzi’s year. His most recent album Eternal Atake, his first since 2017, dropped March 6th and hit the top of the Billboard 200. Within a week he released a deluxe version, LUV vs. The World 2.
Now, adding “Sasuke” to the list- I’m interested to see what else 2020 has in store for Uzi.
Listen to "Sasuke" now, available everywhere.
