Dave Bautista Rumored to Play Kratos in God of War TV Series

From Pixels to Hollywood

Over the past five years, society has been treated to multiple movies and television Series based on popular video game franchises. With examples including The Last of Us, Sonic the Hedgehog, Super Mario Bros., and even the Angry Birds have been adapted on the big and small screens. Hollywood recognizes the huge monetary potentials pertaining to the creations of video game adaptations. Among the video game series that will join the list is God of War, an M-rated role-playing game that takes place in an era where Spartans reigned supreme.

Now, many people would suggest that the God of War games, with its astounding graphics and unique storyline, that there is no need for a television adaption. But Hollywood loves its fair share of adaptations, so adapting one of the most popular AAA games in recent memory in a televised format seems to be a financially applicable decision. Almost as applicable as supposedly choosing Dave Bautista as the titular character, Kratos.

Who is Dave Bautista?

Dave Bautista will probably go down in history as one of the most unexpected stars to successfully transition into the realms of Hollywood. Starting off as a rage-fueled wrestler mononymously known as Bautista, the man set his sights on his opponents, taking down anyone who dared to stand in front of him in style. Bautista was already a made man in the World Wrestling Entertainment Industry. But after his time in the ring waned, he made the call to Hollywood where many contrasting figures try to make it in the Big Time.

Bautista is a man of integrity, and after seeing fellow wrestlers, John Cena and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson fit into the Hollywood niche, Dave took a different turn. Instead of primarily focusing on the action genre, he expanded his acting prowess on movies like Blade Runner: 2049, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Story, and Knock at the Cabin. His true calling, however, has been the portrayal of Drax, the wise-cracking, head-turning, butt-beating alien member of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.

Why Dave Bautista fits the Role of Kratos

Amazon Prime has been in talks with the actor for the live action adaption of God of War. One major advantage that Dave already possesses is his movie-ready physique that is a major requirement for the character of Kratos. Although his muscle gain has decreased in recent memory, given his previous history in wrestling, Bautista should have zero conundrums obtaining an impressive build. After an unfortunate injury on the biceps, actor Ryan Hurst had to step down from the role.

That is where Bautista comes into the picture. If the rumored auditions proved to be a success, the scheduled release date of fall 2026 will go as planned. Let us hope that age won't be a negative factor in casting Bautista, knowing that Mr. Hurst was 50 when he was injured, and Dave is pushing 60, making injuries possibly more inevitable. Whatever the case may be, we all wish the cast and crew members good luck.
