Clubhouse…what’s the purpose?

Written by Rasheena @rahaka

It seems like every few months social media spits out a new app to keep us busy. The newest phenomena is clubhouse. From, Clubhouse is a live audio app that allows people to listen to or actively participate in live discussions. Nothing is recorded. Unless a participant screen records and post it on YouTube. Or just visit twitter and get the transcript of each and every conversation. This invite only app allows users to enter different rooms and listen or participate in various topics. All members of the room have visible profiles and you can follow each other. It even gives the creator of the room a bit of power! They can giveth or taketh the right to speak by making you a speaker or placing you in the audience.

Clubhouse sounds like a great way to share, build and network with likeminded people. If you are an expert at what you do, this app allows you to share your knowledge or even recruit. Despite the potential of this app, most of what has come from these Clubhouse discussions are arguments, negativity and belittling.

There are rooms to question if comedians are funny, full of people that apparently hate said comedian yet have watched all their current stand ups enough to formulate a strong opinion. Rooms of people asking why women are trash full of men degrading women *whispers they don’t get no bishes*. It gets more and more ridiculous by the day.

Clubhouse has quickly become yet another app of clout chasers with no knowledge just a big mouth and followers. A place to hear yourself chat and make others feel inferior. Creating rooms with the false pretense of helping others when they’ve done nothing successful in the field. How did we allow this to happen?

But I’m team droid so I could just be a hater.
